Excise nabs main distributor of narcotic drugs in Kollam
Kollam: A Kollam native was nabbed by the Excise special squad for possessing MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) drugs. Deepu, who is an accused in several marijuana-related cases, was nabbed with 10.56 grams of MDMA. This is the first time that such a large amount of the drug was seized in Kollam district. 50 grams of marijuana and Rs 40,000, which he obtained by selling MDMA drugs, was seized.
The Excise team said that Deepu is the major distributor of drugs in Kollam. Imprisonment of up to 20 years and a penalty of Rs 10 lakhs can be awarded to someone nabbed with more than 10 grams of MDMA. The property of the accused, bought through distribution of drugs, will also be attached.
MDMA is mainly used as party drug. The excise team kept Deepu under observation after the locals complained that drugs were being distributed under his leadership in Ashramam Maidan, Uliyakkoviland Kavadipuram areas.
Deepu’s main customers were from the age group between 17 and 26. Excise also obtained details of Deepu’s recent trip to Bengaluru with a female friend to buy MDMA.
The investigation team also found that Deepu used to secure MDMA worth Rs 1 lakh from Attingal native Vaisakh, who is a former accused in drug-related cases, via courier. Assistant Excise Commissioner B Suresh stated that they have started an investigation centred on Deepu’s phone calls.
