Excise nabs gang that smuggles ganja on train in Palakkad
Palakkad: Excise special squad and Palakkad intelligence team nabbed a team of five men for smuggling 1.5 kg ganja on train. The accused have been identified as Abdul Jabbar (22), Shamil (21), Muhammed Arshad (21), natives of Beypore and Visakh (23) and Rajesh (23), natives of Thrissur.
As the officials began inspection, the five threw the packet of ganja out of train to escape from inspection. They were caught while trying to recover the thrown away ganja packet. Ganja was being smuggled from Salem on a train. Before reaching Olavakkode railway station, they threw the packet out of the train and the five got out of the train at the station. The officials nabbed them based on a tip-off.
From their statement, it was found that they had smuggled ganja to Thrissur and Kozhikode 12 times before. In their modus operandi, the gang collect the thrown away drug after the completion of inspection and continue their journey in another train.
To recover the packets easily from shrubs, they used to wrap it in glitter papers. The officials also received information about another guy who smuggle ganja in same mode of operation. However, the officials couldn’t find him.
