Elderly woman's murder during robbery: Assam man held
Kannur: The police arrested a man who murdered an elderly woman during a robbery. The arrested has been identified as Assam native Mahibul Haq (24). He is the key accused in the murder of PK Ayisha (74).
The team led by Kannur Town SI Biju Prakash arrested the accused from Barpeta in Assam three weeks after the incident. Police retrieved the robbed gold from him. The accused was brought to Kannur and remanded by the CJM court. Another accused Assam native Nasrul is yet to be nabbed.
Ayisha was attacked on September 23 at 4.15 am. The accused had worked at Ayisha’s house and nearby households. They knew that she was living alone and had several gold ornaments. The culprits closed the valve of the water tank so that Ayisha would come out of the house to check it.
Ayisha woke up early for namaz. As ther was no water in the pipe, she switched on motor. But even after the tank overflowed, she did not get water from pipe. With this, she went out to check. The culprits attacked her and chopped off her ears to rob her earrings.
They also kicked her on the chest and fled before the neighbours reached. Ayisha died at Government Medical college in Kozhikode on September 29 morning. She had given the statement to police that some north Indians had attacked her.
