Egg cracked by robber cracks slew of robbery cases for police
Ranni: The police here arrested a notorious robber who looted several shops and places of worship with the help of the shell of an egg that the miscreant had consumed.
Police received a breakthrough in the form of an eggshell from a hotel which the miscreant had robbed. Forensic officials were able to lift his fingerprints from the eggshell which helped identify the robber and prove the crimes.
The arrested was identified as K. K. Fakrudhin, a native of Puthan Kadappuram, at Chavakkad in Thirissur district. According to police, Fakrudhin committed robberies in Pathanathitta, Thrissur, Palakkad, Alappuzha and Kannur districts.
Police said that Fakrudhin had broken into several places of worship in Ranni in a short span of two months. He had stolen Rs 50,000 from a vegetable shop in Ranni one week ago. Following this, police intensified investigations for the robber based on the directions of the district police chief.
Fakrudhin had broken into the Manthamaruthi Marthoma church on July 29 and Idakkulam St. Thomas Knanaya church on June 28 after removing the roof tiles and decamped with valuables and cash.
He had also broken into Raj Hotel in Elanthoor. During the robbery, Fakrudhin had consumed an egg after breaking the shell. Police recovered his fingerprints from the discarded eggshell. Investigations revealed that the print belonged to Fakrudhin.
In the wee hours of Saturday, shadow police found Fakrudhin at Perumpuzha under suspicious circumstances and arrested him. During questioning, Fakrudhin confessed to several robberies in a number of districts.
In Pathanamthitta district, Fakrudhin had committed robberies in Anandapally, Enathu, Thatta, Konni, Vadasserikkara, Kodumon, Perunad and Kozhenchery. Fakrudhin had been using the cash from robberies to drink and lead a luxury life, police said.
