Drunken teen trespasses into house; falls into well during bid to escape
Chadayaboygalam (Kollam): A teenage boy who trespassed into a house in an inebriated state fell into a well while trying to escape. The locals managed to rescue the boy from the well. But complaints arose that the police did not charge a case against him though they took him into custody.
The incident took place at the house of late Noushad in Karalikkonam here on Saturday night. An 18-year-old hailing from Pattazhi jumped over the 10-feet high compound wall and rushed into the bathroom of the house.
The family raised an alarm thinking the boy was a thief. As the neighbours gathered around the house, the boy tried to escape through the pipeline on the wall. But the pipe broke and he fell into the well on the court yard.
The locals rescued him from the well and informed the police. But only three police officers arrived at first, said the family. Later, Sub-Inspector and others also came and took the boy into custody, but they released him without charging a case.
Following this, the family lodged a complaint with the District Police Superintendent, Police Chief and Women's Commission. The police said that the locals had brutally beaten up the boy after rescuing him from the well. He was sent home with his relatives.
SI S Sarathlal said that the boy was taken into custody on Sunday and a case charged. He is a wood worker. The police added that a group of people are trying to divert the issue when the police told them that case will also be charged against those who have beaten up the boy.
