Dowry harassment death in Oyur: 27-yr-old Thushara weighed only 20 kg
Kollam: Heart-breaking revelations are coming out in connection with the death of a woman at Oyur who was made to starve to death for dowry. Neighbours revealed that Thushara’s husband Chandulal and mother-in-law used to perform witchcrafts at their house and physically tortured her.
Chandulal and family lived at a place ridden with mysteries. The house premises were protected with high tin sheets to block the vision of people. Many arrived here for witchcrafts and other purposes. No neighbours or relatives were allowed to enter the house.
Thushara’s mother Vijayalakshmi told Mathrubhumi News that they were allowed to meet their daughter only three times after her 6 years of long married life. Her in-laws used to torture her in the name of dowry and her relatives have not met her since last one-and-a-half-years. Neighbours revealed they had seen Thushara being beaten up at the house and complaints in this regard was filed 27 times.
Thushara died of pneumonia on March 21 which was caused by lack of nutritious food. She was denied food for a long time. For months, the woman had eaten only soaked rice and sugar water. When she died, Thushara weighed only 20kg. This has triggered more enquiry into the incident. In connection with the case, Thushara’s husband Chandulal and her mother-in-law Geethalal were arrested.
