Dispute over funds for treatment: Police interrogate 3 including Sajan Kechery
Kochi: Police questioned three including social worker Sajan Kechery in a case where a girl named Varsha faced threats demanding a share of the fund she received through crowdfunding for her mother’s treatment. On Tuesday, social workers Sajan Kechery, Salam and Shahid were grilled. Firoz Kunnumparambil, another charity worker who is allegedly involved in the case, will be interrogated in the coming days.
It is reported that the trio confessed they phoned the girl. In their statement to police, they revealed that they demanded the girl to give a share from the fund for the treatment of other patients.
Meanwhile, police examined the bank account details of Varsha. It was found that people from abroad donated a huge amount of money to Varsha’ s bank account.
Cheranaloor police have registered a case for allegedly trying to swindle money by threatening the girl.
Varsha appeared on Facebook live requesting donations for her mother’s liver transplantation. Following this, over Rs 1 cr was deposited on her bank account through crowdfunding. She was threatened when she did not agree to the demand of opening a joint account after a large sum of money was transferred.
