Cyber fraud: Writer Sara Joseph's son-in-law loses Rs 20 lakh from bank account
Thrissur: Cyber financial frauds are continuously reported in the state. In the latest case, writer Sara Joseph’s son-in-law P K Sreenivasan lost over Rs 20 lakh from his bank account.
The fraudsters created a duplicate of the SIM card in Sreenivasan’s name and used this to swindle the amount.
The criminals withdrew Rs 20,25,000 from the bank account in five instalments on December 19 from 5 am in the morning. However, Sreenivasan did not receive any SMS or alert from the bank.
The fraudsters managed to make a fake Aadhaar card in Sreenivasan’s name and used this to get a duplicate SIM card. After this, they swindled the money through SIM swapping. Sreenivasan has filed complaints with the bank, Cyber Cell and BSNL in this regard.
