Alappuzha: A CPM local committee member has alleged that Ambalapuzha police tortured him in custody over a man missing case. Murali, a member of the CPM Thottapalli local committee and secretary of the Poothoppu branch has come out with a complaint against the police.
As per the complaint, Sub Inspector and four policemen brutally beat him up. Murali who suffered injuries sought treatment at Vandanam Medical College Hospital.
Murali was summoned to the police station in connection with the missing of Sajeevan, a CPM party member and a fisherman.
Sajeevan went missing on September 29. Following this, the police registered a case and initiated a probe. On Saturday evening, Murali reached the police station for interrogation in connection with the case.
Murali claimed that he was subjected to brutal custodial torture after he said that he didn’t know about the whereabouts of Sajeevan. He alleged that the police continued to beat him until 11 p.m.
"The chief minister is showing good governance in our state. But due to officials like this, the image of the government is getting tainted. We only see such kind of behaviour in movies. No cases were registered against me so far in my life. The language they used is so bad that I feel ashamed to disclose it,” Murali said.
He added that a complaint would be lodged with the Chief Minister, the DGP and the Human Rights Commission.
