Malappuram: A nomadic girl was brutally assaulted at Edappal in Malappuram by a CPM leader on Sunday morning. The girl who sustained a deep wound on her forehead was admitted to a hospital. The assailant was identified as a former Vattamkulam panchayat president and CPM leader P Raghavan. Police took him into custody.
The girl belongs to a nomadic group which collects waste materials. She was collecting waste materials near Raghavan’s property at the time of incident. Raghavan first blocked the girl from doing it and further beat the girl. She was bleeding when she was admitted to hospital.
As the news came to limelight through Mathrubhumi News, P Suresh, chairman of commission for child rights said the commission will register a case by itself. Assaults against children are unacceptable and stringent action will be taken against the assailant, said Suresh.
