Counterfeit currency mafia nabbed from Piravom with fake notes worth Rs 7.57 lakh
Piravom: Police busted a counterfeit currency mafia here on Tuesday. It is reproted that the accused were engaged in printing counterfeit currency at a rented house in Elanji here. Police seized counterfeit currencies worth Rs 7.57 lakh, machines which were used for printing and paper from the house.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) received secret information and raided the house on Tuesday. They arrested Anand from Vandiperiyar, Sunil from Nedumkandam, Pius from Kottayam and Jibi from Thrissur in connection with the case. Another person hailing from the Pathanamthitta, who is also a part of the gang, is absconding. The gang had rented the house in Elanji in his name.
The group is equipped with printers at home and has printed a large number of counterfeit notes. So far they have smuggled around Rs 15 lakh counterfeit currencies from there. Police are investigating whether more people are involved in this case. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and local police also reached the spot and collected information.
