Cloth vendor who borrowed money sets himself ablaze at creditor's house
Vaikom: A cloth vendor, who borrowed money has set himself on fire at the creditor's house . The incident happened against the backdrop of a dispute over repayment of loans. Biju (48), son of late Prabhakaran who ran Krishna Textiles at Vaikom took the extreme step on thursday.
Biju went to Babu's house, who is the owner of the 'best bakery' in Vaikom, at around 10.30 am. After setting himself on fire on his courtyard, he tried to enter inside Babu’s house.
Meanwhile, Babu's wife Jaya also suffered burns in the incident. She is admitted at the Vaikom Taluk Government Hospital. Biju was rushed to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital for intensive treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. Police said Pala Magistrate recorded his dying declaration.
It is reported that Biju had earlier borrowed Rs 3 lakh from Babu as loan. On Thursday morning, Babu came to Biju's shop and asked for money. The duo immediately got into a major brawl. The preliminary conclusion of Police is that Biju has committed suicide as a result of this scuffle. Vaikom police have registered a case of unnatural death. The body is kept at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Biju is survived by wife Manju , two children Krishna and Nandana.
