Maradu (Kochi): A Class 12 girl was found dead inside her bedroom at home here on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Nehisya (18), younger daughter of Joseph and Jesiya. The family were residing on Madathara road near Maradu mosque. She was a Class 12 student at Gregorian public school in Maradu.
Nehisya, who used to wake up around 7 am, did not get up even after 9 am on Monday. As their calls were not heard, Nehisya’s father and elder sister called up their neighbour Sagaran. They then broke open the door only to find Nehisya lying dead.
Cotton was stuffed inside Nehisya’s mouth and nostrils. Her head and face were wrapped with a plastic bag which was duct-taped. Her face was covered and there was a rope tied around her neck.
On information, the Maradu police came to the spot and held inquiries. Forensic officials also inspected the spot. There were no trace of anyone having gone out of the room on the first floor of the house. Hence police have ruled out murder and are of the assumption that Nehisya committed suicide.
It is alleged that Nehisya, who was a bright student, was scolded by her father for scoring one or two marks less than usual. Only Nehisya’s father and elder sister were present inside the house when the incident took place. Her mother is undergoing treatment at an Ayurveda hospital.
Few days ago, Nehisya had celebrated her 18th birthday by inviting friends to her home. Her body has been kept at the Ernakulam General Hospital mortuary.
