Charas worth Rs 20 lakh seized in Wayanad; one held
Sulthan Bathery: The excise officials have seized 2.025 kg of charas worth of 20 lakhs from a youth here at Muthanga Excise Check post. T. Tehsil was arrested by the police after he tried to smuggle the contraband through the check post in a KSRTC bus.
The charas was seized from the bus headed to Ponnani from Mysore. The drug was wrapped in the form of chocolate. The officials said that the accused was trying to smuggle the charas out of the country to Qatar via Kozhikode airport.
Charas is the name given to a hashish form of cannabis which is handmade in the Indian subcontinent and Jamaica. It is made from the resin of the cannabis plant.
They also stated that the accused is a member of prominent drug trafficking unit and assured they would investigate the matter and bring other culprits, related to the incident, behind the bars.
The excise team under the supervision of Circle Inspector T.M. Majuvin comprised excise inspectors Gigi Ipe Mathew, P Saju, preventive officers K Shashi, K A Simon and civil excise officials V Raghu and Ajesh Vijayan.
