Koyilandy (Kozhikode): The relatives of a bride attacked the groom and his companions while they were coming to the wedding venue here. The incident took place on Thursday evening in connection with the marriage ceremony of Muhammed Salih (29), son of Naderi Manjalad native Kunjimuhammed. The attack occurred at Kannoth in Keezhariyoor.
Muhammed Salih married his girlfriend, a Keezhariyoor native, through register marriage two months ago. Later, the family decided to conduct the wedding ceremony as per religious rituals. When the groom was coming for the ceremony, the bride’s relatives including her uncle blocked their car and attacked.
The window panes of the car was destroyed using machete and they tried to hack Salih. They escaped by speeding the car. Salih’s friends Muhammed Shafi and Shabeer also sustained injuries in the attack. They sought treatment at Koyilandy taluk hospital.
The girl’s relatives had tried to attack Salih before this incident too. When the girl left to Salih’s house, the relatives attacked the house and kidnapped the girl. But the girl came back and stayed there. With this, the families decided to conduct the wedding as per rituals.
However, the girl’s uncles did not like this and they attacked the groom. Koyilandi police registered a case and started probe. As per primary reports, 6 people are involved in the attack. Two of them were identified. The accused are absconding, said Inspector K C Subhash Babu.
