Bollywood actor arrested for duping cores of rupees from producer in Kannur
Kannur: Edakkad police arrested Bollwood actor Prashanth Narayanan and his wife Shona for duping Rs 1.20 crore from a movie producer. Prashanth is a Kannur native.
Prashanth was arrested from Mumbai based on a complaint filed by Thomas Panickar, a movie producer. Complaint said Prashanth received Rs 1.20 crore from Thomas promising to make him the director of a Mumbai based company called Intec Images Private Limited, but cheated.
The fraudulence occurred when Prashanth Narayanan came to act in a movie titled ‘Cinemakkaran’ produced by Thomas Panickar. Prashanth took money promising to make Thomas the director of the company owned by his father-in-law in Mumbai. He further said Thomas could earn huge amount as profit within six months. As part of the deal, Rs 80 lakh was sent to Prashanth’s account and Rs 40 lakh was handed over from abroad.
Later, Thomas learned that such a company doesn’t exist in Mumbai and demanded money back from Prashanth visiting his house in Mumbai. However, he didn’t repay the money. Following that Thomas filed a complaint and police nabbed the Prashanth and wife from Mumbai.
The arrested were remanded after producing before the Thalassery additional chief judicial magistrate.
