Bar owner nabbed for selling liquor at home
Nilambur (Malappuram): A bar owner was arrested by Excise officials for selling liquor at home amid lockdown.
Narendran of Cherukad house in Vellayoor, an expatriate and the owner of City Palace bar in Vandoor, was arrested by an Excise team led by preventive officer M Harikrishnan.
His actions were being monitored by the Excise based on a tip-off obtained from Excise Intelligence. He was booked from a rented house in Naduvam.
Meanwhile, another Excise team raided the bar. During the earlier days of lockdown, the Excise department had recorded the stock at the bar and sealed it. It was found that the seal was broken and liquor was sold from it.
The amount of liquor in the bar's store room was less than that was recorded. Liquor worth Rs 450 was sold to the security guard at the bar for Rs 2,300 which he in turn sold for Rs 2,600. It is also known that the popular liquor brand Jawan was sold for Rs 2,000.
Prima facie Excise officials have found that liquor worth Rs 5 lakh was smuggled from the bar.
The accused was presented at the Perinthalmanna court.
