Auto driver who assaulted migrant labourer arrested from hideout
Thiruvananthapuram: An autorickshaw driver, who assaulted a migrant labourer at Vizhinjam here on Saturday, evening has been arrested.
The autorickshaw driver, Suresh, was arrested from a hideout. The police registered an attempt to murder case against him. Suresh assaulted a migrant worker named Gautham Mandal on Saturday evening.
The fight broke out after Gautham was hit by the vehicle driven by Suresh when he was reversing. When Gautham questioned it, Suresh was provoked and started abusing him. Even when the fight turned violent, there was no intervention from any of the onlookers.
After slapping him, Suresh asked the migrant labourer for his identity card. When Gautham refused to take out his id card, Suresh slapped him again. Suresh then took the card from Gautham and asked him to collect it from the police station.
Vizhinjam police started investigating after the video of the incident began to circulate on social media.
It is learned that Suresh had assaulted migrant labourers earlier also. Recently, Suresh attacked a mobile shop owner over recharging his phone. The video of this incident is also circulating on social media.
It is also alleged that Suresh is a drug abuser and is addicted to ganja. Local residents alleged that Suresh also used to sell drugs.
