Auto driver booked for murdering 16-year-old girl
Pathanapuram (Kollam): The crime branch investigation into the death of a 16-year-old girl has confirmed that it is a case of murder.
The crime branch investigation found that the victim, a plus one student was murdered after rape. Sunil Kumar (40), an auto driver has been arrested in connection with the incident that happened on July 29 last year. He is remanded by Additional Sessions court, Kollam.
According to charge sheet, the accused broke into the girl’s house at night and strangled her to death using a rope after raping her. The girl was asleep when the culprit broke into the house. The case was taken over by Crime Branch after protest by locals for concluding the death as a case of suicide by police.
At midnight, the accused entered the house breaking the frail door that leads to victim’s room from outside. He raped the girl who was asleep. To keep her mute, Sunil strangled her neck with a rope he had brought. He escaped after confirming death and stealing her gold chain. Next day onwards, Sunil lived a normal life driving auto without giving a chance of doubt, said the officers.
Following that, the police filed a case for unusual death, but couldn’t unfold the mystery behind. Thus Crime Branch took over the case. Kollam Rural District Crime Branch couldn’t create any development in the case. Subsequently, the case was handed over to Kollam Crime Branch Detective Inspector G Johnson and team.
Sunil was caught with the help of scientific evidences and interrogating neighbors. The accused was confirmed after identifying the DNA collected from fluids found on victim’s dress.
