Attempt to rape minor: SI absconding in POCSO case surrenders
Thiruvananthapuram: A police Sub Inspector (SI), who was absconding in connection with an attempt to rape a minor girl, surrendered at a court here on Monday.
The accused, Thiruvananthapuram bomb squad SI Sajeev Kumar surrendered at the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court here. He was remanded for 14 days.
A case was registered against Sajeev after he tried to rape a class 8 student. The intelligence department chief had suspended Sajeev Kumar. Following this he surrendered at the court.
On November 26, Sajeev Kumar tried to rape the girl who came to his quarters, the girl’s mother said in the complaint.
After strong efforts by Childline activists, Peroorkada police registered a POCSO case against the SI three days after the incident.
