ASI who demanded Rs 5 lakh from parents to release their children suspended; case booked
Kochi: Assistant Sub Inspector Vinod Krishna, who was accused of demanding Rs 5 lakh as bribe from parents of two girls to release them from custody, was suspended on Sunday. Thrikkakara Police has filed a case against him for cheating.
Vinod Krishna was transferred from his post as ASI in the Ernakulam North Police Station to the District Armed Reserve Police Camp on Friday in the wake of the allegations levelled against him. The intelligence unit is also investigating other allegations against Vinod Krishna.
The girls' parents alleged that other policemen who were with Vinod Krishna were also involved incident and no investigation or action was taken against them. They demanded that the case should be investigated by another independent agency as the police have not heard their version and they are unable to communicate in Malayalam.
The action was initiated in connection with the incident in which daughters of a Delhi couple residing in Kochi eloped from their house and left for Delhi. As the family complained to the police, the girls were traced and brought back to Kochi with the help of Delhi police. The elder girl was sexually abused and the Delhi police arrested two persons identified as Faizan and Subair. Later, Kochi police arrested Subair only and let other person go. The girls were sent to a shelter home.
Reportedly, Vinod Krishna urged the parents to allow the accused to marry the elder girl. Since they declined, the police demanded a sum of Rs 5 lakh for releasing the girls from the shelter home. Meanwhile, they also summoned and arrested the girl's brothers on false charges of abusing their sisters. The parents alleged that Vinod Krishna demanded Rs 5 lakh to remove case against their sons.
