Arrested in Karipur gold smuggling have major links, states DRI report
Kozhikode: Those who were arrested in Karipur international airport the other day have major links in gold smuggling, it is learnt. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) stated in the remand report that P Nizar and team who were arrested had smuggled 30 kilograms of gold.
Mathrubhumi News received the details of the report. Nizar had told the DRI that he had smuggled gold via Karipur airport 20 times. This amounts to about 30 kilograms.
The DRI officials got clues about airport cleaning staff Prabhath after interrogating Abdul Salam and Abdul Jaleel who were arrested. It was Prabhath who introduced Nizar to Salam and Jaleel. The accused also disclosed the involvement of Muhammed Sadiq.
The accused shared the amount which was given as commission under the guise of the job in airport. About Rs 11 lakh received in this way was seized from Abdul Salam's house and Rs 1.62 lakh from his car.
It is stated in the DRI report that gold smuggling has been continuing for a long time and there are more people involved in it. The gold smugglers had also tried to kill the DRI staff who came for a raid.
