Arrack sale in Alappuzha: Police name Yuva Morcha leader as key conspirator
Alappuzha: Police have reported that a Yuva Morcha district leader is behind the illegal sale of arrack centred at Edathua here. Yuva Morcha district vice president Anoop Edathua was booked in connection with the case.
Police received information about Anoop’s involvement in the arrack sale after nabbing some people over arrack smuggling. On the other day, a few people including Anoop’s brother were arrested over the illegal arrack sale.
Police initiated a probe into the case after arresting some DYFI leaders over transporting arrack, an illicit liquor. The sale was carried out by obtaining the travel pass for COVID prevention activities.
According to police, Anoop who is a president of a voluntary group named Kuttanad Rescue Team carried out the illicit liquor sale by using the group. Anoop and team supplied arrack to places from Edathua to Haripad.
They used to brew arrack at their house and supply to customers around 3 am on their vehicle. They charged Rs 2500 per litre for doorstep delivery. Those who are ready to purchase directly from the house received arrack at Rs 1500 per litre.
The accused also gave a discount for those customers who purchase 10 bottles together. The payments were made through online mode including Google Pay, informed the police.
According to the police, more details on the illegal arrack brewing unit will be recovered after arresting Anoop. As sensing the movement of police, Anoop tried to get anticipatory bail. Police intensified the search for the accused to avoid the chances of his escape.
