Kelakam (Kannur): Kannur district police chief G Siva Vikram has said that investigation regarding the presence of armed Maoists group at Ambayathode is progressing in collaboration with neighbouring states. Search is being carried out at Karnataka and Tamil Nadu forest borders. First phase of the investigation regarding this has been completed, added district police chief.
A detailed probe is being conducted at forest areas in Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts in the name of ‘Operation Hawk’. The search is a combined operation with Thunder Bolt, Anti-Naxal combat force and Armed Reserve Battalion. SPs of each district is entrusted with the operation. Huge battalion of force has been deployed at Ambayathode.
Specific details about the travelling route of Maoists in the forest was found out in a days-long detailed inspection, said district police chief. Natives are also helping the team in the search. It is learnt that the team also got information on whether Maoist group got local help.
SP Siva Vikram conducted a meeting with members of the force at Devaswom guest house at Friday noon on the further steps to be taken in the investigation and to evaluate the progress.
