Argument over theatre parking ends in gruesome murder; one arrested
Mapranam: A man was hacked to death following an argument over vehicles of theatre goers being parked in front of his house resulted here in Thrissur district. In connection with the incident, police registered a case against four people including the proprietor of the theatre. One among them has been arrested.
The deceased has been identified as Rajan (67), who was living near Varna Theatre in Mapranam. Rajan died at the hospital on Saturday morning. Vinu (35), son-in-law of Rajan was also attacked and is undergoing treatment.
Police booked Sanjay Ravi, the proprietor and three theatre staff in connection with the case. Among this, Manikandan (25), a native of Oorakam was arrested. The others are absconding.
The incident which resulted in the death of Rajan took place on Friday night. Police said Vinu and Sanjay had an argument over vehicle parking by theatre goers on the road behind the theatre. On the same night, Sajay and the other three returned to Vinu’s house in an autorickshaw around 12 at night and attacked Rajan and family.
The attackers hacked Rajan on the head, back and hand when he opened the gate. Vinu who went to save Rajan was stabbed thrice. The two were taken to a private hospital in Thrissur. However, Rajan who was seriously injured succumbed on Saturday morning. Vinu is no longer in critical condition.
Infuriated over the incident, local residents blockaded the theatre. Police intervened and pacified the residents.
Sanjay Ravi took the Varna theatre on lease few years back. Locals said that several arguments over parking had taken place earlier also. The residents had alerted the police about this.
Forensic officials and police held inquiries at the spot and recovered the machete used for the crime. CCTV footages were also collected from Rajan’s house. Police have intensified the search to nab the culprits.
