Kasaragod: Albin, the accused who murdered his younger sister by mixing poison in ice cream, plotted the murder using the smartphone gifted by his father. Though the family members had asked him to give the remaining ice cream to their pet dog, Albin did not do it.
After getting rid of the poisoned ice cream, Albin also pretended to have physical discomforts to avoid suspicion. Albin will be produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate in Kasaragod on Friday. According to the information received lately, Albin planned the murder well in advance.
The police have found out that Albin was planning to convince others that the incident was a case of family suicide and he was not involved in it. He made the plan to add poison to the ice cream using the phone bought by his father Benny.
Ann Mary and Albin prepared ice cream at their house in Vellarikundu on July 31. Albin gave it to his sister and father Benny. His mother Bessy did not consume ice cream then. She was given the ice cream only the next day.
The following day, Ann Mary developed stomach ache and nausea. Initially, she was taken to a hospital in Vellarikundu and later shifted to a hospital in Cherupuzha where she died on August 5. By the time, father Benny and mother Bessy were also hospitalised due to discomforts. Albin also pretended to have fallen sick and sought treatment with them.
Growing suspicious over Ann Mary’s death, a post mortem was held and it was found that she was poisoned. Though traces of rat poison was found in others' body, nothing could be found in Albin's body. With this, the hospital authorities informed the police.
The Cherupuzha police registered a case and handed it over to Vellarikundu police for detailed investigation. Later, Albin confessed to the police during interrogation that he poisoned the ice cream to kill his parents and sister.
Benny who consumed ice cream with his daughter is still under treatment in a private hospital in Payyannur. Albin told the police that he tried to murder the family in order to live lavishly. Earlier, he had tried to poison chicken curry and murder them.
However, the attempt failed as the poison was added in small quantity only. Thus he bought a new packet of rat poison and mixed in a bowl of ice cream kept it in the fridge. This was consumed by Benny and Ann Mary. As Bessy had only a little amount, she was saved.
