Admitted in hospital during day, thief at night
Gandhinagar (Kottayam): A thief who found hospital as a safe haven during day time has surprised police and hospital authorities. The incident took place in Kottayam Medical college. The new way of the miscreant life was revealed by a social activist who came as a bystander to his relative in the hospital. The thief chose the hospital for his safe stay during day time. No legal actions could be taken against him as he was admitted in the hospital lawfully.
Thief was identified this way
A relative of a social activist was admitted in the hospital for few days. Beside his relative’s bed in the hospital, another patient was lying on the floor for two days. It was found that the man would be sleeping during day time and was missing at night. Observing him for two days, it was learnt that the patient would go out during night and return early morning in a new dress and bag. When enquired about his night outings in a friendly talk, he avoided a detailed conversation by saying he went out to get some fresh air.
In a detailed query, others said that he was a thief. Police also agreed that there are many like him.
How to get in
The thief arrived at the OP section with stomach ache or a back pain. He lied that even after conducting many tests there is no relief. So doctors admitted him for a detailed check-up. With this, the thief achieved what he wanted. It offered him free accommodation, safety from police and free food from various NGOs.
In a hospital like Kottayam medical college where nearly 20,000 people arrive in a day, including patients and bystanders, police can’t conduct an effective checking or patrolling. Only two police personal are appointed at the hospital. One among them would be home guard and the other would be in charge of traffic.
However, Dr T K Jayakumar, superintendent of the medical college said that the installation of new computer registration system and more CCTV cameras would bring every nook and corner of the hospital under observation.
