Kochi: The trial court has sharply criticised the Viyyur jail superintendent over the release of approver Vipin Lal without bail, in connection with the actress attack case.
The court summoned the jail superintendent after observing that his report was incomplete.
Though Vipin Lal turned approver in the case, he was not granted bail in the case. The court had ordered to house him inside the jail itself. But the Viyyur jail authorities released him in 2018 after he was granted bail in another case.
Recently, police arrested MLA KB Ganesh Kumar’s personal secretary Pradeep over Vipin Lal’s complaint. In the complaint, Vipin alleged that Pradeep threatened him to change his statement. Following this, actor Dileep, accused in the actress attack case, approached the court seeking the documents of Vipin’s bail.
The court found that bail was not granted to Vipin in the case while considering Dileep’s plea.
Later, the court summoned Viyyur jail superintendent AG Suresh seeking an explanation into the matter. Citing the incomplete report on Vipin’s bail, the court criticised the superintendent. The prosecution was also asked to give an explanation over the matter before January 11.
Amidst this, the new prosecutor Anil Kumar demanded the court to settle the petitions related to the case immediately. The court also informed its willingness to function on Saturdays to speed up the trial. The trial into the actress attack case will commence from January 21.
