Accused escapes from COVID-19 care centre for second time
Kochi: An accused, who was nabbed by police after he escaped from a coronavirus care centre, once again fleed from the centre.
He was identified as Ernakulam Vadayampady native Suresh alias Dracula Suresh, who is accused in a number of cases. On Friday, Suresh broke open a door on the second floor of the Covid care centre at Karukutty, jumped down and escaped. Kannur native Nishal also escaped with Suresh.
Suresh was arrested by police on Wednesday. He was admitted to the coronavirus care centre in Karukutty at night for observation. However, Suresh attacked the policemen stationed there and escaped.
Following an investigation, police nabbed Suresh from a house at Meprathu Padi early on Thursday. He was taken back to the Covid care centre from where he escaped again.
Following the incident, Rural SP K. Karthik visited the Covid care centre. Accused remanded by the court are admitted to this centre until their coronavirus test results are announced. The SP evaluated the security measures at the centre and gave directions to strengthen them.
Around 50 accused are under observation inside the two storey building. Those who test positive for the virus are taken to First Line Treatment Centres from the centre. Those who test negative will be sent to prison.
