Alappuzha: Police on Friday nabbed the main accused in the Mannar woman abduction case. He was identified as Fahad from Ponnani in Malappuram district.
The police have also taken three more, who were involved in the abduction, into custody. Their arrests will be recorded soon. Police have also seized the car in which the four were travelling.
The other day, a group of people from Paravoor had come to the police station claiming they had kidnapped a woman. While questioning, police identified the main accused Fahad. Following this, police took Fahad into custody from Ponnani. He was later taken to the Mannar police station.
The police had taken 4 persons, who had assisted in the abduction, into custody the other day. Police said that Fahad is involved in gold smuggling.
The accused had kidnapped Mannar Kurattikadu native Bindu from her house on Monday. Hours later, she was abandoned in Vadakkencherry in Palakkad district. She later sought refuge at the police station. Police found that Bindu, who returned from abroad a few days ago, was kidnapped by a gang of gold smugglers.
Meanwhile, it was found that Bindu was involved in gold smuggling. She told the police that she was carrying 1.5 kilograms while returning but abandoned it at the Maldives airport fearing arrest. However, police are of the view that there are disparities in her statements.
