Mattathur(Thrissur): 91-year-old Mukkattukara native Cheriyakutty was arrested in connection with the death of his 80-year-old wife Kochuthresya at Vellikulangara. Kochuthresya was reported missing since past 4 days.
The primary assumption of the police was that heated arguments between the husband and wife led to the murder of the wife.
According to police, Kochuthresya was killed in a room upstairs and the body was burnt near the wood storage shed behind the house. The charred body recovered from here on Thursday.
Kochuthresya and Cheriyakutty lived alone in their house. They have seven children, all of whom are married and live separately in their own homes. The locals said that arguments and conflicts happened every day at the house.
Four days back, during an argument, Cheriyakutty had hit Kochuthresya on her head with a rod which resulted in her death. He then wrapped her body in a cloth and pulled it all the way downstairs and burnt it at the shed. He also made attempts to clean the blood stains on the stairs. Police suspects that Cheriyakutty might have used petrol for burning the body.
He even took away the gold chain which Kochuthresya was wearing before buring the body.
The police conducted an investigation following complaint from Kochuthresya’s children that their mother was missing. The search conducted by a team led by Vellikulangara SI SL Sudheesh in and around the house found the traces of burning behind the house. Following this, the police interrogated Cheriyakutty, during which which he confessed to the murder.
As Cheriyakutty showed signs of illness, not much questioning was conducted, said the police. The dog squad and forensic experts will visit the place on Friday for evidence collection.
Kochuthresya is survived by children- Jessy, Jaison, Jose, Johnson, Chummar, Moly and Joby.
