8 nabbed for tying man to flag pole, assaulting him in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The Vizhinjam police here on Wednesday nabbed eight men for forcefully taking a man out of his house and assaulting him after tying him to a flat pole at a junction.
The culprits have been identified as Shafi (26), Kannan (23), Ismail (21), Hashim (29), Ashique (29), Ajmal (24), Sajil (22) and Firoz (22). Man who was attacked is Faizal, a native of Vizhinjam township.
The incident took place on Tuesday around 10.30 am. A three-member gang including Shafi and Kannan reached Faizal’s house and forcefully took him outside after threatening his family members with machetes. They then took Faizal to Vizhinjam theatre junction in an autorickshaw. There, Faizal was tied to a flag pole of DYFI using a towel and was beaten up by the eight-member gang.
Following the incident, DYFI filed a complaint with police against the attackers for misusing the flag pole.
In the incident, attackers beat up and injured Faizal using iron rods, machetes and knives. Assailants continued to attack Faizal even after locals gathered at the spot.
Police said that an argument over breaking the smart phone of Faizal led to the attack. Shafi and others had assured Faizal that they would buy new phone for him. However, an another argument erupted over this issue and it led to the attack on Faizal.
