6-yr-old autistic boy found dead in Govt owned Children’s home in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: A differently abled boy staying at the Government Children’s Home in Vellimadukunnu was found dead in mysterious circumstances. The deceased is Ajin, 6, son of Mananthavady native Jishoy and Nitya.
One of the staff of the Home V K Manoj found the boy in an unconscious state bleeding from the nose on Saturday morning at about 6. Immediately Manoj, along with another staffer, rushed the boy to a private hospital nearby from where he was asked to be taken to the Medical College hospital. The boy died before treatment could be given, Manoj told the Chevayur police.
According to Ajin’s relatives, the boy was doing good till Friday night and did not have any health issues. The boy was autistic and his mother was undergoing treatment at a hospital for depression. His father had abandoned the family. The boy had his grandfather and grandmother. The boy was shifted to the Vellimadukunnu home as per the request of the Child Welfare Committee. Children aged 13 and 14 were accommodated with Ajin, said the home authorities. The home houses 38 children in 6 rooms.
One of the staff told police that the boys were engaged in a fight.
Ajin was brought to the Vellimadukunnu home last March through the Child Welfare Committee members. The address of the child was given as Kottamurikkal Veetil. An inquest has begun and the RDO informed that investigation is progressing. Collector S Sambasiva Rao have sought a report from the Children’s home authorities. A case was also booked and the autopsy would be conducted on Sunday. Only after the autopsy report, the reason for death would be confirmed.
