5-year-old’s statement proves crucial again; Crime Branch to probe death of Thodupuzha boy’s father
Thiruvananthapuram: “Pappi did not get up after Acha beat him.” These are the words of a five year-old child which turned out to be crucial in the Investigation of the death of his 7-year-old brother.
It is another statement of the same child that has again become crucial in the investigation of the death of his father as well.
It is suspected that the death of Thiruvananthapuram native BR Biju was a murder. It is alleged that Biju was murdered by his wife Anjana and her friend Arun Anand. It was last year that Arun Anand murdered the elder son of Biju and Anjana.
Anjana and her two children lived with Arun after the death of Biju. Anjana moving in with Arun soon after the death of Biju had raised suspicions. However, no one raised any complaints. It was after the death of the 7-year-old that the demand to investigate the death of Biju was raised.
Anjana had initially stated that Biju experienced chest pain at home and that he died by the time he was taken to a hospital. However, when the Crime Branch took over the investigation, they registered the statement from the youngest child. He stated that his mother gave milk to Biju on the day of his death and it was after drinking the milk that Biju complained of chest pain. It was based on this statement that the Crime Branch decided to exhume Biju’s body.
Arun Anand and Anjana had taken the severely injured 7-year-old boy to a hospital on March 27, 2019. They told the doctor that the child fell off the bed. However, the authorities informed the police after they found the statement to be suspicious.
The truth came out after Anjana and the younger child were questioned. Arun threw the boy onto the wall after beating him cruelly. The child was then taken to Kolenchery Medical College as the injury was serious. However, he died while undergoing treatment.
Arun Anand has been sent to jail as the main accused in the case. Although Anjana was arrested for destroying the evidence, she was released on bail later.
