5 Keralites trapped in visa fraud in Sharjah
Sharjah: Five Keralites fell prey to visa fraud here in Sharjah. Abhinesh, Vipin, Shobin, Sarath and Mathews, hailing from Karukachal town in Kottayam, have been stranded in Sharjah after accepting a fake visa from an agent for a food packing company in Sharjah.
The youth have mortgaged their properties and ornaments to cough up a whopping Rs 1 lakh each for a work visa to an agent they met through a friend. When they paid the money, they received the employment contract via e-mail. The contract mentioned about the job offer in a food packing company, monthly salary of 1350 dirhams and accommodation, food provided by the company. However, the name of the company was not specified. Without realising that they received a bogus contract, they left for Sharjah and were trapped.
The 5 men have spent a month in Sharjah. They live in a single congested room without having a proper meal. The agent in Chennai gave the mobile number of a Tamil man in Sharjah. They were asked to reach Sharjah Rolla when they called the number. But the agent only arranged a temporary room for their accommodation. The men said that when they called the agent's office, a woman picked the phone and ignored them by giving baseless statements. They said that if they could receive their money paid to the faud agent, they could return back home to their native place and start a new life.
