4 arrested at Karipur airport for smuggling gold in chartered flights
Malappuram: A large amount of gold was seized from Karipur International Airport here on Monday.
Customs Intelligence caught four people who came in the chartered flight from UAE for trying to smuggle out gold. In all, customs officials seized three kilograms of gold from the accused.
1.25 kg of gold was seized from a passenger from Sharjah who arrived in an Air Arabia flight. The gold was kept in the passenger’s underwear in an amalgamated state. More than 1.5 kg of gold was seized from three other passengers from Dubai who came in a Fly Dubai flight.
The gold is being smuggled in chartered flights as there is less physical inspection at the airport due to COVID-19 transmission. Smugglers are taking advantage of this opportunity to smuggle gold through chartered flights.
The other day, 432 grams of gold was seized from a Malappuram native at the Kannur International Airport.
