2nd accused in CPM worker murder case arrested
Kayamkulam: Eruva native Shefeeq (26), second accused in the murder of CPM worker Siyad (35), has been arrested in connection with the case. Investigating officer said that the murder was committed due to the animosity developed by the first accused Mujeeb (39) towards the victim. Mujeeb was arrested earlier in connection with the case.
Siyad was a member of CPM and a volunteer worker for COVID prevention activities. The murder took place when Siyad was distributing food prepared by his wife Khadeeja to the quarantine centres in the town. His family includes father Rajan and children Aisha (5) and Haira (1).
The incident happened on Tuesday at 10.30 pm. Mujeeb, who is also a member of a quotation gang, stabbed Siyad to death near MSM school in the town. Mujeeb told police that Siyad and his friends opposed him from selling marijuana to school kids. Eruva native Vidoba Faisal (32) has also been arrested for attacking one of Siyad’s friends, Rajeesh (34), after his death.
Congress councilor Nissam has been named as the third accused. After the attack, Nissam took Mujeeb to his house in a car. Nissam has been booked for not informing police about the incident despite being a public worker.
Police arrested Mujeeb from Kottayam medical college on Wednesday night after he was injured while attacking Rajeesh along with his friends. The injured Nissam was taken to his house by Nissam in his car, who reached the area upon hearing the noise. Meanwhile, Shefeeq had escaped in his motorbike when Mujeeb got injured.
Nissam, who was arrested, was released on bail.
