Malappuram: Two kids, who were locked up inside a room at Mambad here in Nilambur, have been rescued.
Police and local residents rescued the children of a migrant labourer couple. The kids, who are only four and six years old, have been admitted to the Nilambur taluk hospital. Police have taken their parents into custody.
The migrant labourer couple had been staying on the third floor of a building in Mambad. The couple would lock the children inside the room when they went to work. Initially, the couple used to keep the windows open and the local residents used to feed the kids.
The other day, the couple started locking the windows also. Following this, local residents informed officials concerned and rescued the kids.
The two children were taken to the Taluk hospital. Checkups revealed that the kids were suffering from malnutrition. There were cuts on the bodies of both the children. One of them had sustained an eye injury also.
