2 chicken at Rs 100; people queue up in front of shop, owner ends up in police custody
Pookkottumpadam (Malappuram): A poultry farm owner's attempt to sell the chicken remaining in his farm ended up in a disaster as people crowded in front of the shop and police took action for violating lockdown norms.
When the farm owner faced shortage of chicken feed, he decided to sell off the chicken. He campaigned through WhatsApp that two chicken will be available at Rs 100 at his shop at Uppuvalli in Pookkottumpadam. This was widely circulated and the farm witnessed a huge crowd of buyers since Monday night.
People arrived on two wheelers and queued up to buy chicken from the shop. By this time, police came to know about the incident and reached the place. The buyers fled from the spot on seeing the police.
Police arrested the farm owner for selling chicken in a way that would result in COVID-19 transmission. A case was charged against him and later released on bail.
Earlier, chicken was sold off in similar way at Parakkapadam, Karamkulam and Amarambalam areas also. But the farm owner in Uppuvalli was caught as he campaigned through WhatsApp.
