12-yr-old boy critical after door of speeding bus falls on head
Kochi: The condition of Akash from Kochi, who sustained severe injuries when the door of a bus fell on his head, continues to be critical. The boy who underwent a surgery is put on ventilator. Akash is son of Kakkanad Kanichira Veetil Prakash.
The incident happened on December 23 at 11 in the morning near the Thrikkakara Municipal Cooperative Hospital. 12-year-old Akash was travelling on a scooter along with his relatives. When overtaking a bus, the door near the driver’s seat detached and fell on his head Akash was going to Aluva to take part in the final rituals of a relative. Akash was sitting between two persons.
The door of a private bus collapsed on his head and immediately he was rushed to the Ernakulam medical centre and an emergency surgery performed. The Thrikkakara police arrested bus driver Sarathi (30) and he was let off on bail later. A case was booked against the driver for negligent driving.
Akash is under observation and his condition continues to be critical.
Police seize bus
The police case booked against the driver was handed over to the RTO, said Ernakulam RTO K Manoj. He has asked the Ernakulam Motor Vehicle inspector to submit a report on the incident. The bus owner and the driver were issued show cause notice. The driver had stated to the MVD that the door had not collapsed but opened suddenly and hit the boy’s head. The Motor Vehicle Inspector has directed to examine this. The bus was also taken into custody by the police officials.
