I'm not a celebrity, says Mrudula Murali
Mrudula Murali is now a well known face in Malayalam industry. Have you felt like roaming around Kochi anytime like an ordinary person?
(Bursts into laughter) Even now, I travel around Kochi alone for various matters. Sometimes my family is present and at other times my friends. I’m not leading a celebrity lifestyle and I’m comfortable like this.
But still, is Mrudula seen as a celebrity when outside?
When in Kochi, I have not felt that way. Some come and speak to me while some click photos with me. That is all. Fans are looking at acting like any other job.
You have entered cinema from television field. Did you expect to enter the tinsel world?
No expectation…but it was my wish. During my childhood days when anyone asks what I would become when I grow up, I would reply that it is cinema. I have not entered into this field by chance. But my offer in the first movie `Red Chillies’ was accidental. And the main excitement was the great actor Mohanlal.
From when did you feel that you could continue in this cinema industry itself?
During my first scene in my first movie, I have decided firmly on my decision. It was only cinema in Plan A and I do not have any Plan B. That was the reason for choosing media studies too. If I had not entered cinema then I would have ventured into media. (Correcting herself) No its cinema only.
Did your outlook on cinema remain the same when you entered into it?
I did not enter cinema with great expectations. It has its own hardships along with the enjoyment it offers. I felt acting was much more simple when compared to other technical departments. That is because, when looking at the work done by others present in the unit, we realise how much blessed we are.
Some click photos in mobiles unexpected and it is not like stylized photos in a photo shoot. Have you encountered any setbacks?
When going out, though I take care of my attire some click photos inappropriately. Seeing this I get very angry. This could be included as one of the bad effects of technology development. Taking photos without permission is not good.
In the movies you have acted, has any director wanted you not to perform a particular thing?
Many directors have advised me not to laugh too much. (laughing). Not because of anything else. My eyes are small and when I laugh it could not be seen. Then my gait … many told me that I walk like a man. Many opinions fly by and I take note of all these. I make it a point to rectify some.
Mrudula is a fashionable girl. How will you draw a line between glamour and vulgarity?
The attire which people say is bad I do not adorn. The word vulgar itself gives a meaning that it is bad. But, glamour is something else. That is a style statement. Even without exposing the body, one can call a woman sexy. That shows their self-confidence.
Does aging create tension for actresses?
I love birthdays. Now you can understand I don’t care about aging. Age is just a number and I strongly believe in this. With every passing year, our experience changes. An individual like Mrudula gets more maturity and I turn into a good actress.
