SC deplores a sexual harassment complaint against judicial officer
It has now become a trend to file sexual harassment cases against judicial officers. In one such incident, the Supreme Court deplored it feeling it could be a malicious one.
In the case of a complaint filed against a MP District Judge, the SC stayed the proceedings initiated by the High Court. A lady sub judge had filed a complaint against him in 2018.
The district judge Raghuvamsi had challenged the disciplinary action alleging that the internal committee that looks into the allegations had violated natural justice and drew conclusions finding him guilty.
The SC found that the arguments of the district judge were convincing prima facie and needed in-depth examination.
The SC stayed the HC proceedings and issued notice to the respondents.
The SC had expressed deep dissatisfaction in the way such complaints are made. They could be part of wreaking vengeance against a particular judicial officer and could be malicious too.
In this case the SC observed that such circumstances looks imminent. That is why the SC said that these are disturbing trends.
