How can Covid patients be treated in hospitals that look like a dungeon, asks Gujarat HC
The pathetic way in which Gujarat Government handled the Covid patients at a civil hospital was severely criticised by the High Court. The court was compelled to enquire into the situation when a public interest litigation pointed out the Government's failure.
The court observed that the Ahmedabad civil hospital where Covid patients are treated lacked even the minimum facilities and infrastructure. Adequate ventilators were not there. The patients were not properly attended and everything was in a mess.
The court expressed anguish and remarked that it is not a hospital but a dungeon or even worse. The court called upon the Government to do the necessary follow-up steps to make the hospital operational for patients and treat them efficiently without complaints from any corner.
The court was compelled to pass adverse comments against the health minister and higher officials, including the chief secretary, for their irresponsible behaviour that made the hospital look like a dungeon. More than 377 patients died due to Covid.
