Govt must be fully equipped to deal with Covid exigency: Bombay HC
A hospital treating Covid patients is duty bound to find ventilators and the government cannot say any excuses. If there is no fund, it is the duty of the Government to make the available funds and install all infrastructure in the hospital to treat Covid patients. The government is to be fully equipped, ruled the Bombay High Court.
The high court took suo moto cognizance based on press reports that had telling stories of Covid patients left in the lurch in Nagpur.
The court reminded the government that Covid is an extraordinary situation and the government has to be fully equipped to meet this. It is a welfare government and is bound by the constitutional obligation to serve the people by installing all infrastructure facilities to meet requirements to save the lives of those reaching the hospitals for treatment. Covid situation is so grave that paucity of funds has to be solved on a war footing. The entire government machinery has to be set in motion and immediate steps taken to make available necessary funds, the court directed.
The Gujarat high court observed that hundreds of men and women are seen in the city without masks. Such a situation cannot be allowed. The Covid protocol has to be observed. The government must act to implement the same.
