Vijay Babu
Kochi: The time sought by actor-producer Vijay Babu, who is accused of sexual abuse by a former colleague, to appear before the police for questioning ends on Thursday. He had replied to the police notice that he is on a business tour and will be back only by May 19.
An actress, a former colleague of Vijay Babu, accused him of sexual misconduct. The complaint said that Babu committed the offence on the pretext of offering the survivor roles in movies. Police registered a case against Vijay Babu on April 22 based on the complaint filed by the actress. He abused her multiple times, she stated in the complaint.
Vijay, following the allegations, took to his social media to clarify his version on the matter. However, he revealed the name of the survivor, leading the police to register one more case against him. Another woman has also alleged that Vijay tried to kiss her once.
It is learnt that Vijay Babu is trying to get anticipatory bail and will show up only once the bail is granted. He might move Supreme Court if the High Court rejects his bail.
It is also learnt that Babu, who fled the country, has been staying in Dubai. The probing officer informed that a ‘blue corner’ notice has been issued against Babu. The issue of blue corner notice was aimed to bring the actor back to India. Kochi police have not yet received any reply for this from the UAE. The police have also alerted the UAE Embassy about Vijay Babu reaching there. The ‘red corner’ notice can be issued only once his whereabouts are known.
With the issue of the red corner notice, the police of the country in which the fugitive is present will have to locate and send him to his country. City Police Commissioner C H Nagaraju said that the probe into the actress attack case is almost done and that the statements of 30 people were recorded. There are also allegations that the accused tried to settle the case by trying to coax the actress through his friends.
