Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam
Lijo Jose Pellissery has once again proved that he stands atop the Malayalam film industry with his versatility and uniqueness. His Magnum Opus, ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ -which literally translates to ‘nap at noon’- starring Mammootty, was screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala on Monday.
The plot revolves around James (Mammootty), his family and crew travelling back from Vellankanni, when James encounters a strange phenomenon, which forces the whole crew to be stranded in a rural Tamil village. This narrative focuses on James' surreal experience, which causes major problems for a rural family as well as the crew with the protagonist.
The film also stars Ashokan, Ramya Pandian, Kainakary Thankaraj ,T Suresh Babu and Chethan Jayalal.

Mammootty literally lives through the character of James as each and every emotion he depicts makes a mark in the mind of the audience. Lijo Jose, who always strives for authentic narration and shots never disappoints the audience. This movie is also no exception.
S Hareesh, who penned the story, navigates by detailing each and every minor aspect of the characters and mise-en-scenes. The narrative gives a ‘Malgudi Days’ experience, while the cinematographer Theni Eswar adds more flavour to it. By using wide frames, which is novel to Lijo's works, he has forced his audience to pay close attention to each frame.
As the plot pilots through a Tamil village, they used retro Tamil music and it made the movie more appealing. Deepu S Joseph has beautifully tailored the film. All the supporting crew, including Ashokan, deserve applause.
Lijo Jose Pellissery has once again proved that he is on a mission to make a league of his own. The Mammootty–Lijo combo has produced a monumental work. The film will definitely hold a pivotal spot in the library of Malayalam classics.
