Malayalam cine star and former Member of Parliament Suresh Gopi on Tuesday during an interaction with media said the chief minister of the state should be asked about actor Tini Tom’s remarks on drug use in film sets.
Taking a dig at the Pinarayi Vijayan regime, he said that it should not keep blind to the influence of the drug mafia in spheres including the film industry during its lone pursuit of publicising administerial efficiency.
Recently, Tini Tom revealed that his wife had rejected the opportunity to let their son act in a movie out of fear of the increasing cases of drug abuse at film locations. He claimed to have seen an actor whose teeth had started crumbling due to drug addiction. Some people believe he acts well when he is high on drugs, he stated. Though many counterparts urged Tom to reveal the name and not to make claims, the latter has not yet responded.
Several senior actors and directors have spoken out against the reports of substance abuse in the movie industry. The film bodies including, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes), and Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) highlighted drug use among some in the industry and maintained that they are not ready to associate with such individuals. The Excise department announced that it is over the matter.
