Shobana to perform at Surya Fest on her birthday, in memory of Travancore sisters

Shobana, Travancore Sisters Lalitha-Padmini-Ragini

Thiruvananthapuram: After a long break posed by the pandemic, Shobana will soon reach to mesmerise her audience at the dais of the Surya Festival. The Bharatanatyam dance performance of Shobana and her team will be staged at the AKG centre at 6.45 pm on Monday, which is also her birthday.

She will be performing at Surya Festival after a gap of three years and it will be her first programme in Thiruvananthapuram after the outbreak of Covid. At a press meet, Shobana expressed her happiness in performing in the Surya Festival.

Shobana had choreographed for 25 dance events in the Surya Festival. She said that the upcoming performance will be presented by commemorating Lalitha- Padmini- Ragini, the trio who were known as the Travancore sisters. They were aunts of Shobana.

The programme that will span for more than an hour is a fusion dance based on Bharatanatyam. Shobana said that Thiruvananthapuram is always dear to her heart. Though she could not perform at the renowned Padmanabha Swami temple here, she believes that the blessings of Lord Padmanabha can be received while staging performance anywhere in Thiruvananthapuram, she said.

Shobana shared her wish to put up a memorial for Lalitha- Padmini- Ragini at Thiruvananthapuram. She recalled the words of Padmini that the sisters did not get the recognition they deserved in their lifetime. But the support of the government will be also required to fulfil this dream, added Shobana.
