On poet ONV Kurup’s 89th birthday, Mohanlal lists his favourite ONV songs


Mohanlal noted that he considers his friendship with the great poet as one of the best blessings he has received from the film industry.

Remembering the noted Malayalam poet ONV Kurup on his 89th birthday, Mollywood superstar Mohanlal penned a heartfelt note on the writer. Mohanlal expressed his respect and admiration towards ONV who impressed generations as a poet, lyricist and teacher.

Mohanlal noted that he considers his friendship with the great poet as one of the best blessings he has received from the film industry.

‘He is the creator of those poems, drama songs and light music which give goosebumps to me from a young age. He was the most celebrated teacher in the college during my college days. Interestingly, he was the writer of my favourite poems like ‘Ente Kadinjool Pranayakadhayile Penkodi’ and ‘Nashtavasanthathinte Thaptaniswasame’” wrote Mohanlal.

Mohanlal revealed the list of his favourite film songs penned by ONV.

“He penned so many beautiful songs for Malayalam movies. I was fortunate to act in many of his songs,” said the actor.

“Panchagni, Sugamo Devi, Uyarum Njan Nadake, Nammuku Parkkan Mundirithoppukal, Neram Pularumbol, Deshadanakkili Karayarilla, Onnumuthal Poojyam Vare, Ivide Elarkum Sugam, Indrajalam, Lal Salam, Sooryagayathri, Rajasilpi, Nadodi, Midhunam, Pavithram, Rakthsakshikal Zindabad, Mizhikal Sakshi, Pranayam, Geethanji and so many movies are blessed with his superhit songs,” Mohanlal listed the movies in which ONV penned songs.

“ I think ONV sir penned songs for me in the movies of Thambi Kannanthanam and Venu Nagavally. ‘Kunjikiliye’ from Indrajaalam, ‘Kunjupavakinnalo’ from Nadodi, ‘Aaro Porunnenkoode’ from Lal Salam, ‘Ponnaryan Padam’ from Rakthasakshikal Zindabad, ‘Aakasamake Kanimalar’ from Nammuku Parkan Munthirithoppukal, ‘Vanambadi Etho’ from Desadanakkili Karayarila, ‘Madhumati Pooo Virinjuvo’ from Geetanjali are some of my favourite songs. These songs are always played on FM Radio and people Malayalis across the globe consider them as their favourites,” Mohanlal said.

The ‘Lucifer’ actor also shared happiness on working with ONV and Raveendran Master in the movie ‘Sooryagayathri’.

“I rendered my voice for the soundtrack of the song ‘ Thampuru kulir’ in ‘Sooryagaythri. I am glad that I was lucky to be part of such a great song by ONV-Raveendran team,” revealed Mohanlal.
