Thrissur: Noted music director PK Kesavan Namboothiri passed away on Sunday around 4 am at his residence in Thrissur. He was 84.

Namboothiri, a native of Palakkad, is acclaimed for his contribution to the field of devotional music. He composed several songs for the albums ‘Pushpanjali’ (1981) released by Sangeetha Cassettes and ‘Vanamala’ (1983) by Tharangini.

Some of his famous compositions include ‘Vighneshwara Janma Nalikeram’, ‘Vadakkumnathanu Suprabhatham Paadum’, ‘Guruvayoorambalam Sreevaikundam,’ ‘Mookambike Hridaya Thalanjali’, ‘Ambadi Thannilorunni,’ among others.

Many of his songs resonated with his deep love for Lord Krishna.

Prominent singers including KJ Yesudas, P Jayachandran and Sujatha have sung songs composed by Namboothiri. He retired from Thrissur Akashvani in 1998.
